I ended the day in Bradenton, Florida. I came down the middle of the state seeking some good riding in and around the Ocala National Forest. Rte 17 to Rts 19 and 40 is how I did the forest...but allow me to say, despite the warm sunny weather, most of Florida is really not much fun to ride. It's Harley country--straight, flat roads with long, shallow curves. Seeking to avoid I-75 I took Rte 301 south to the Tampa area--another mistake: such a grueling, traffic-laden crawl that I eventually just gave up and got on the highway. Turned out the curviest, hilliest parts of this area are the highway on and off-ramps.
I took this photo for Carly. It's at my Aunt Jess's house, where I stayed for the night after a big meal of catfish, frogs' legs and alligator. This bunny, with her pretty print dress and her ribbons on her ears, struck me as just the kind of friend a little girl might have had two hundred years ago
